Any organization conducting modern biotechnology activities must establish an Institutional Biosafety Committee (IBC) which is registered with the National Biosafety Board (NBB).

Description:
These guidelines provide methods for establishing IBCs, the role of IBCs and the processes to be followed when obtaining, using, transferring, storing or disposing of LMO/recombinant DNA material. It also provides a description of the relevant rules and procedures. Other information available in these guidelines are such as the responsibilities of the Biological Safety Officer (BSO) and researchers, IBC expertise, a description of the types of assessments that IBCs need to conduct, actions required to report incidents, injuries and other information.
