- Implement state obligations under the Cartagena Protocol on Biosafety to the Convention on Biological Diversity;
- Ensure the implementation of a rigorous risk assessment approach to genetically living modified organisms (LMOs) and LMO products that will cause or potentially adverse effects on humans and ecosystems;
- Ensure the regulation of activities involving genetically living modified organisms and the release of the products of such organisms so as not to affect the security and well -being of the country; and
- Raise public awareness on the importance of biosafety to human health, plants, animals, the environment and biodiversity.
