Introduction to NBB

In line with the objectives of the Biosafety Act 2007, the National Biosafety Board (NBB) was established in 2010. The establishment of this NBB aims to regulate the release, importation, exportation, and controlled use of LMOs and the release of such organisms.

Functions of the National Biosafety Board:

1. Make decisions on all applications for Approval and Notification.

2. Make LMO activities and the results.

3. Conduct research, development, education, and training activities on biosecurity.

4. Establish a mechanism to facilitate the collection, storage and dissemination of data related to LMO and biosecurity.

5. Implement or make provision for the implementation of obligations arising from biosafety agreements, conventions, or treaties.
