1. To implement government bonds under the Cartagena Protocol on Biosafety to the Convention on Biological Diversity.
  2. To evaluate applications for the release, importation, export and contrained use of modified living organisms, and the release of products of such organisms.
  3. To carry out monitoring and enforcement activities under the Biosafety Act 2007 [Act 678].
  4. To advise on the handling of modified living organisms.
  5. To raise public awareness in relation to the role of biosafety on human, plant and animal health, the environment and biological diversity.
  6. To encourage research, development, education and training activities related to biosafety.
